Notable studio albums released by Lynyrd Skynyrd include Second Helping (April 25, 1974), Gimme Back My Bullets (February 2, 1976), Street Survivors (October 17, 1977), Lynyrd Skynyrd (June 11, 1991), Vicious Cycle (May 20, 2003), God & Guns (September 29, 2009), and Last of a Dyin’ Breed (August 21, 2012). During this time, former members of the Lynyrd Skynyrd kept making music. The band was on hiatus from 1977 to 1987. It was largely due to their opening slot on the Who’s Quadrophenia tour in the United States. Throughout 1973, the fan base of Lynyrd Skynyrd continued to grow rapidly. It also reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Free Bird” was the hit song included in the album that received national airplay. ![]() The album sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by RIAA. On August 13, 1973, the band released its self-titled debut album. The current lineup of the group consists of Gary Rossington (guitars), Rickey Medlocke (guitars, backings vocals, and mandolin), Johnny Van Zant (lead vocals), Michael Cartellone (drums), Mark Matejka (guitars and backing vocals), Peter Keys (keyboards), and Keith Christopher (bass).
